House passes spending authorization bill

A bill recently passed by the House authorized a spending grant of 1.1 trillion dollars for the rest of the fiscal year. this is an excellent example of how a bill is passed along through the government because,  the bill is now being processed through the senates approval. In order for our government to keep running it is necessary for the government to have so much spending involved. However when i see something like 1.1 trillion dollars allowed it makes me think of how much faster our government will sink into its huge debt.

House Approves the DREAM Act.

The Dream Act, is an Act passed by the House recently that grants a way for children under the age of 16 who entered the United States illegally, to become citizens however there are some requirements. Individuals who have lived in America for at least five years, obtained a high school or General Education Development diploma and demonstrated "good moral character," according to a White House fact sheet, may be eligable for citizenship as long they also either go to college or serve in the Military for at least 2 years. There are some opposing points on this proposition that this could possibly be a form of amnesty for all illegal immigrants. On the positive side, for individuals who arent a threat to public safety, this could be a way to strengthen our military and our economy.

Does Supreme Court have too much power?

I dont feel that the Supreme has too much power. I feel that the amount of power they have is necessary for our system of government. Without the supreme court our country wouldnt have a way to make enforce the laws according to the Constitution.

Presidential Power

Im comfortable with the amount of power the president has. With the checks and balances of the other branches the presidents power is limited. But even though i am comfortable i feel that we should go back to the way the founding fathers had designed the presidents power to be. The presidents power has increased a ton since then and i feel our government would be better off the way it intended the presidents power to be like.

WikiLeaks releases U.S. Messages

WikiLeaks released various articles having to do with the U.S. Foreign Policy and other various topics. The articles gave information as to what our country was really doing, the type of things that the people dont get to hear about. I personally am glad that the information was released. I feel that in a democracy, if the people truly do rule, then we should hear as to what our country is being involved in.

Senior Administration Official Defends Ghailani Trial

Jake Tapper, a Senior White House Correspondent, was defending Ghailani's trial verdict after he was acquited of most of his charges. He will be sentenced to 20+ years due to the one charge, but Jake Tapper was saying how convicting him of more charges, that he probably should have been convicted of, would not have changed the sentence. I personally feel that it would have definetly changed the sentence given and feel that he should be sentenced to life.

Faith as an excuse for crime.

Brian Mitchell is being accused of kidnapping Elizabeth Smart at the age of 14 and taking her across state lines for sex. He says that he was given visions from God to do these things. His lawyers say his religious beliefs were delusions, that their client was insane and therefore cannot be held responsible for his actions. I personally feel that this is questionable, and that its more of a scapegoat for men convicted of serious crimes. Unless medical proof is provided that he really was insane before kiddnapping the girl then I feel that the excuse should be discarded and should be held resonsible for their actions.

Landmark in Terrorism Trial

Ahmed Khalfan Ghailani was acquitted Wednesday of all but one count of conspiracy-related charges in a landmark civilian trial involving the first Guantanamo detainee to be tried in civilian court. I personally feel that individuals suspected for terrorist attacks against the U.S and other various country's dont deserve a trial as if they are civilians. Ahmed was accused of conspiracy and murder in the 1998 attacks on U.S. embassies in Nairobi, Kenya, and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The bombings, for which al Qaeda claimed responsibility, killed 224 people, including a dozen Americans, and wounded thousands of others and i feel that he deserves a different form of conviction because it gives him an easier chance to be set free.

US created "safe haven" for Nazis in recently discovered report.

In a report recently found The United States created a safe haven for some Nazis after World Ward II, granting them entry even though government officials knew of their pasts, according to a U.S. Justice Department report in todays News York times. i personally feel that it was wrong for our government to grant entry of Nazis who had a significant effect on the War and the Holocaust. After so many of our men died in Europe we let the men who killed them and many others entry into our country without any persecution. Its as if today  we were to let terrorists who were involved in 9/11 to walk right into our country.

Experience influenced on government/politics

I personally feel that i havent had any experience or experiences that have had a strong political influence on me and my position on selecting a party. i personally lean more towards an independent/Republican because I share similiar motives as republicans but differ in some that lean away from Republican and Democratic. I am slightly conservative and feel that the government shouldn't take responsiblity on people in the country who are to lazy to go out and work for their own money. I feel that our government somehow feels the obligation to spend and take care of people who dont take action on being self relient, they depend on others to live and are lazy
